I would like to post a few pictures for all of you to see how we survive in the “Taps Run Dry Campaign” starting from 16 – 19 October 2008.
Unfortunately, I lost the most important and meaningful picture… very sad…
That picture is about the bus driver standing with pails and pails and pails of water around him at the R&R beside the bus under the moonlight (Because it’s around 12am that time) while figuring out a way to stuff all the pails into the bus to make two trips into 1. Since, I lost the picture, you have to imagine it.
Some pictures show all the pails L (My housemate) & I got in the apartment. All full!! And we carried it all from ground floor till the 3rd floor!!
Some pictures show all of us line up to get the water from the Syabas mobile tanker. It’s not that clear because I took it from my balcony.
Sometimes, I do wander now how do we survive from that “dreadful” campaign?
The answers are:
- Only bath once a day at the evening and use only one medium pail of water.
- Buy mineral water from minimart to drink
- Eat bread and food from cafeteria (it’s clean because I saw them took a lot of
container of water)
- Go to library because it is cold there so I won’t sweat!
- Go to sleep rather than studying (no particular reason except I don’t have mood to
study while there is no water).
- Try all our best to make sure all 20 pails are full!!
- My neighbours borrow their pails to us while they went back to their home (Thanks)
Source of water supply:
- Lab’s toilet and water dispenser machine in front of the lab (No picture)
- Fire hose (We saw seniors took water from there but this is not recommended
because it had the chemical smell so we used it to flush the toilet)
- Hall’s toilet
- Syabas mobile tanker
- Syabas static tanker
- R&R at Seremban which we took nearly 2 ½ hours for the whole journey
I found out that while I’m trying to survive in this campaign, my friends kept asking me why I don’t go back since my home is only 1 hour away from the college.
It’s just that since there is water supply from the places above so I don’t think I have to really worry about no water although I did worry when I heard the news that the campaign might go on for 7 days although the college announced 3 days.
So, that is my life in the “Taps Run Dry Campaign”!
p/s: I found out that I’m actually having fun while this campaign goes on.
Friday October 17, 2008 Taps run dry due to burst pipes By GEETHA KRISHNAN THREE pipes channelling water to the Semenyih plant burst yesterday, disrupting supply to 75,000 households in the Sepang, Kuala Langat and Hulu Langat districts with 350,000 residents. In its statement, Syabas said the 150cm, 120cm and 105cm-sized pipes at Kampung Revolusi Hijau in Sepang were damaged due to suspected sand-mining activities carried out by a third party. Following the 7.15am incident, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) issued a code red alert for the areas. Syabas operations executive director V. Subramaniam who was at the site said it would take between three days to a week for water supply to be restored. “A combination of sand-mining activities and erosion contributed to the damage to the pipes. Due to this, we have to lay a new line of pipes. Erosion and sand-mining: A combination of the activities led to the burst water pipes which disrupted supply to 75,000 households in Sepang, Kuala Langat and Hulu Langat. “The new line will be longer and would require realignment. It would take a lot of work and we also need to mobilise the machinery and source for spare pipes,” he added. Subramaniam added that a police report had been lodged over the matter and said Syabas would also inform the Selangor state government on the sand-mining activity. Meanwhile, Syabas contractors will start work immediately. Kampung Revolusi Hijau resident Mat Yusof Ibrahim said the sand-mining activity had been going on for five years and only stopped briefly during the recent clampdown. It however resumed recently. “Water supply to my house has been disrupted since morning and we have to rely on the tankers to get here soon,” he added. Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) senior general manager of operation services Datuk Azmi Murad said the water reserve at the airport was now at 3.7m. “Our optimum capacity is 5m and our critical stage is 1.5m. We have made arrangements with Syabas that if it gets critical, tankers will be supplied and water will be channelled from the reservoir near the airport,” he said. Under the initiated Emergency Rescue Procedure, water tankers will be despatched to 35 areas in Hulu Langat with 30,000 households; 27 areas in Kuala Langat with 25,000 households and 13 areas in Sepang with 20,000 households. As the first step, Syabas has mobilised 33 tankers to supply water to the affected areas. Nine more lorries have been put on standby. To ease consumers burden further, 438 static tanks will be placed in soon-to-be identified areas. A 24-hour crisis centre has been set up and more information can be obtained via the toll-free Puspel customer service 1-800-88-5252.
Saturday October 18, 2008 Crisis looms as taps run dry Story and photos by GEETHA KRISHNAN HULU Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang residents are feeling the full brunt of the water crisis following the Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) damaged pipe incident on Thursday. The morning incident at Kampung Revolusi Hijau in Sepang caused damage to three major pipes channelling water to the Semenyih plant, cutting water supply to 350,000 residents. The disruption, said to be caused by illegal sand-mining activities and erosion, affects some 30,000 households in Hulu Langat; 25,000 households in Kuala Langat and 20,000 households in Sepang. It would take three days to a week for supply to resume. Many residents were caught off-guard by the disruption while those alerted through the media began storing water and taking other adequate measures. Filling up: Taman Utama, Semenyih resident Tan Hong storing water after being informed of the water cut. Section 4, Bandar Baru Bangi resident Azian Muhamad Ariff said the water storage tank in her house had only enough for a day’s supply. “I woke up at 5.30am on Friday morning to discover we had no water. My family has to go to my sister’s house in Subang now to bathe,” she said. The sudden disruption left Jalan Bangi Lama residents in a lurch, forcing them to wait for Syabas tankers. Worse still, no schedules were given. Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi resident Zelda Mohd Zamri said her busy work schedule meant she could not store water and had to wait for the tankers. “I was told by neighbours that the tankers arrived between 10pm and midnight on Thursday night,” she said. Prior to the disruption, Taman Utama in Semenyih experienced many water cuts. “Even then, the tankers turned up late at night. Now, we have tubs of water on stand-by but it looks like we have to spend more money eating out again,” Tan Hong said. M. Karteeswari said Syabas had never informed Taman Utama residents of the frequent water cuts. “The water supplied to us from the tankers is usually foul-tasting. My family bathed with the water once and we came down with rashes that required expensive injections,” she said. Meanwhile, Hulu Langat and Sepang residents said they had water and the pressure was normal. In its statement, Syabas said water tankers would be despatched to 35 areas in Hulu Langat; 27 areas in Kuala Langat and 13 areas in Sepang. Thirty-three tankers have been mobilised with nine lorries on stand-by and 438 static tanks. A 24-hour crisis centre has been set up and more information can be obtained via the toll-free Puspel customer service line at 1-800-88-5252.
The one standing behind is me...I'm trying to take some pic..
Trying to take som pic of my friend while she's taking mine..
Hehe...
First time acting as a "patient".....
The pic that I was trying to take just now.. The right one is my class rep. He is the only one in the whole ALL 8 that manage to hear Seng's heartbeat.
Setting up the train occupied Rob and Grandad for the next hour or so. Sam was in the way, so he decided to go and make an aerial rope for his soldiers on the trees at the top of the garden. He tied a string to the highest branch of apple tree and secured it at ground level near the gate.He climbed the tree, fixed the pulley at the top and tried it out with one of the soldiers. He watched him glide smoothly to the ground. Perfect! From his perch he could see most of the garden. Mum was right. The garden must have been lovely years ago before it became neglected. It could be made attractive again with a lot of work. Even now, in its overgrown state, the leaves of all the different trees and bushes were showing beautiful colours.
The whole garden was on a steep slope. The house was at the bottom of the slope. It had once been a small farm attached to the house were the farm buildings. Next to the kitchen was a stable and a byre for the cattle. These, like the workshop, were built into the hillside to keep the animals snug and warm in the long winter months. Because of this style of building, it was possible to walk out of the end door of the barn on to the slope of the hill, just like you could from the loft above the workshop.
The area at the top had once been an orchard with apple and plum trees. there had now been joined by thorn bushes and elder trees which made it seem more like a jungle. It was good place to play. From here, Sam could look down over the whole area. To the right there was a flight of steps going down to the yard between the workshop and the barn. To the left of the barn there were more steps going down through the garden.
The garden itself was like a giant staircase, made of terraces. At the top was the orchard. Then there was a steep bank down to the next level which was a shrubbery. At the edge of the shrubbery was a wall dropping down to the lower level where there was a lawn and flower garden. After this, there was another wall going down to the path with the vegetable garden beyond. That was how it was meant to be, but at the present, it was so overgrown that it was difficult to see all those features.
As Sam glanced down, he saw a boy walk along the bottom path and disappears round the end of the house. He frowned. Who's that, he wondered?
He went down the steps to see who it was, but the unknown visitor was no longer around.
"Did you bring a boy with you?"he asked his Grandma when he went into the house.
"No, Sam. Just Grandad. He's a great boy,' chuckled Grandma. "I bet he's playing with the train set."
"I've just seen a boy in the garden," persisted Sam.
"perhaps it's one of the neighbours that we haven't met yet," suggested his mother. " Is he still there?"
"No, he's gone," said Sam, disappointed because as yet he had not found any children near enough to play with.
"Don't worry, he'll be back," Mum reassured him. "He was probably just seeing what we are like," she turned back to Grandma and continued her conversation about wallpaper. Sam felt that they were not really interested and he returned to the garden feeling lonely and puzzled.
Over the next few weeks there was plenty to do. Rob and Sam set to work in their loft. The workshop building had been built into the hillside. From the front you could walk into the workshop and up the stairs into the loft above. In the far corner at the back of the loft was a door. If you went through this, you walked on the slope of the hill at the back. In this part of the country it was common to see old houses and farm buildings like this, tucked snugly against the hill so that they were surrounded on three sides by soil. They were built like this for warmth and to reduce the draughts in an area where the weather could turn very cold and windy in any season of the year.
Sam like having the two entrances on different levels. He called the far door his escape door. If any unwelcome visitor came up the workshop stairs he could escape through the back into the trees and bushes behind. The last occupants of the loft had been hens. Sam and Rob had to move nesting boxes from the walls and take out food troughs. They needed a wheelbarrow and shovels to clean up the floor.
When it was clean and scrubbed, they painted the walls white and began to move in some of their things. Mum said they would have two old armchairs and the old kitchen table. Rob set it up near the window to do his modelling work.
During the packing up at the old house, Sam had found a box of old plastic soldiers and army vehicles that had once belong to Rob. He was busy arranging his new-found toys in a corner one afternoon when he heard a car. Looking down, he saw Grandad struggling to get something very large out of the car.
"Hey, give me a hand, you chaps!" he called up to them.
"What's he got now?" wondered Rob, peering out the window. "Oh,great! It's the train set." He dashed down the stairs to help lift out a large board with a train layout fixed to it.
"Here you are, boys. I promised you could have this when you had enough room for it."
"It's great, Grandad. Thanks,' said Rob delighted. "Will you show us how to set it up?"
"I'm sure i could,"replied Grandad eagerly, pleases to be asked to play.
"Enough of this spooky talk," interrupted dad. "What would you say to lighting a bonfire of all those stinking carpets?"
"Oh yes,"cried Sam jumping up."Can I invite Chris and James round?"
"Well, not really, Sam,"replied Dad. "It would take me half an hour in the car to go and get them and than I'd take them all the way back. We can have a house-warming party with just the family. have we any lemonade?"
"No, but there are a few cans of coke and I can make beefburgers for afterwards," suggested Mum.
"O.K." said Sam, disappointed. A bonfire would be good fun, but it would have been better with a few friends to share it.

Lyrics for "Think Of Me" CHRISTINE: Think of me, think of me fondly, when we've said goodbye. Remember me, every so often - please promise me you'll try. When that day, that ones so distant day when you are far away and free - if you ever find a moment, spare a thought for me
and now it's clear though it was always clear - that this was never it to be if you happen to remember stop and think of me . . .
Think of all this withered trees while green - don't think about the way things might have been . . .
Think of me, think of me waking, silent and resigned. Imagine me, trying too hard to put you from my mind. think of me, please say you'll think of me whatever as you choose to do there will never be a day, when I won't think of you . . .
RAOUL: Can it be? Can it be Christine? Brava! What a change! Long ago, it seems so long ago How young and innocent we were... She may not remember me, but I remember her...
CHRISTINE Flowers fades, The fruits of summer fade, They have decisions, so do we but please promise me, that sometimes you will think of me!

Lyrics of "Music of the night" “MUSIC OF THE NIGHT” Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation. Darkness stirs and wakes imagination. Silently the senses abandon their defences
Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour. Grasp it, sense it tremulous and tender. Turn your face away from the garish light of day, Turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light - and listen to the music of the night...
Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams! Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before! Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar! And you'll live as you've never lived before
Softly, deftly, music shall caress you Hear it, feel it, secretly possess you Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind, in this darkness that you know you cannot fight the darkness of the music of the night.
Let your mind start a journey through a strange, new world! Leave all thoughts of the life you knew before! Let your soul take you where you long to be! Only then can you belong to me
Floating, falling, sweet intoxication! Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation! Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in To the power of the music that I write The power of the music of the night
You alone can make my song take flight Help me make the music of the night
“THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA”
Lyrics of "The Phantom of the Opera" *CHRISTINE* In sleep he sang to me, in dreams he came... That voice which calls to me and speaks my name...
And do I dream again? For now I find the Phantom of the Opera is there - inside my mind...
*PHANTOM* Sing once again with me our strange duet... My power over you grows stronger yet...
And though you turn from me, to glance behind, the Phantom of the Opera is there - inside your mind...
*CHRISTINE* Those who have seen your face draw back in fear... I am the mask you wear...
*PHANTOM* It's me they hear...
*BOTH* Your/my spirit and your/my voice, in one combined: the Phantom of the Opera is there - inside your/my mind...
*OFFSTAGE VOICES* He's there, the Phantom of the Opera... Beware the Phantom of the Opera...
*PHANTOM* In all your fantasies, you always knew that man and mystery...
*CHRISTINE* ... were both in you...
*BOTH* And in this labyrinth, where night is blind, the Phantom of the Opera os there/here - inside your/my mind...
*PHANTOM* Sing, my Angel of Music!
*CHRISTINE* He's there, the Phantom of the Opera...
*PHANTOM* I have brought you to the seat of sweet music's throne... to this kingdom where all must pay homage to music... music...
You have come here, for one purpose, and one alone... Since the moment I first heard you sing, I have needed you with me, to serve me, to sing, for my music... my music...
“ALL I ASK OF YOU”
Lyrics of "All I Ask of You" No more talk of darkness, forget these wide-eyed fears; I'm here, nothing can harm you, my words will warm and calm you. Let me be your freedom, let daylight dry your tears; I'm here, with you, beside you, to guard you and to guide you.
Christine Say you'll love me ev'ry waking moment; turn my head with talk of summertime. Say you need me with you now and always; promise me that all you say is true, that's all I ask of you.
Raoul Let me be your shelter, let me be your light; you're safe, no one will find you, your fears are far behind you.
Christine All I want is freedom, a world with no more night; and you, always beside me, to hold me and to hide me.
Raoul Then say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime; let me lead you from you solitude. Say you need me with you, here beside you, anywhere you go, let me go too, that's all I ask of you.
Christine Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime. Say the word and I will follow you.
Together Share each day with me, each night, each morning.

Mirror mirror lie to me Show me what I wanna see Mirror mirror lie to me
Why don't I like the girl I see The one who's standing right in front of me Why don't I think before I speak I should have listened to that voice inside me I must be stupid, must be crazy, must be out of my mind To say the kind of things I said last night
Mirror mirror hanging on the wall You don't have to tell me who's the biggest fool of all Mirror mirror I wish you could lie to me And bring my baby back, bring my baby back to me
Mirror mirror lie to me Show me what I wanna see Mirror mirror lie to me Show me what I wanna see
Why did I let you walk away When all I had to do was say I'm sorry I let my pride get in the way And in the heat of the moment I was to blame I must be stupid, must be crazy, must be out of my mind Now in the cold light of the day I realize
Mirror mirror hanging on the wall You don't have to tell me who's the biggest fool of all Mirror mirror I wish you could lie to me And bring my baby back, bring my baby back to me
If only wishes could be dreams And all my dreams could come true There would be two us standing here in front of you If you could show me that someone that I used to be Bring back my baby, my baby to me
Mirror mirror hanging on the wall You don't have to tell me who's the biggest fool of all Mirror mirror I wish you could lie to me And bring my baby back, bring my baby back to me
Mirror mirror hanging on the wall You don't have to tell me who's the biggest fool of all Mirror mirror I wish you could lie to me And bring my baby back, bring my baby back to me
Mirror mirror lie to me Show me what I wanna see Mirror mirror lie to me Mirror mirror lie to me Show me what I wanna see Mirror mirror lie to me
I lie awake at night See things in black and white I've only got you inside my mind You know you have made me blind
I lie awake and pray That you will look my way I have all this longing in my heart I knew it right from the start
Oh my pretty pretty boy I love you Like I never ever loved no one before you Pretty pretty boy of mine Just tell me you love me too Oh my pretty pretty boy I need you Oh my pretty pretty boy I do Let me inside Make me stay right beside you
I used to write your name And put it in a frame And sometime I think I hear you call Right from my bedroom wall
You stay a little while And touch me with your smile And what can I say to make you mine To reach out for you in time
Oh my pretty pretty boy I love you Like I never ever loved no one before you Pretty pretty boy of mine Just tell me you love me too Oh my pretty pretty boy I need you Oh my pretty pretty boy I do Let me inside Make me stay right beside you
Oh pretty boy Say you love me too
Oh my pretty pretty boy I love you Like I never ever loved no one before you Pretty pretty boy of mine Just tell me you love me too Oh my pretty pretty boy I need you Oh my pretty pretty boy I do Let me inside Make me stay right beside you.
One, two, three, four! Everybody makes mistakes Everybody has those days Everybody knows what, what I'm talking bout Everybody gets that way

Sometimes I'm in a jam I've gotta make a plan It might be crazy I do it anyway No way to know for sure Ill figure out a cure I'm patching up the holes But then it overflows If I'm not doing to well Why be so hard on myself?
Nobody's perfect, I gotta work it Again and again 'til I get it right Nobody's perfect, you live and you learn it And if I mess it up sometimes Nobody's perfect
Sometimes I work a scheme But then it flips on me Doesn't turn out how I planned Get stuck in quick sand But no problem can't be solved Once I get involved I try to be delicate Then crash right into it Though my intentions are good yeah yeah yeah Sometimes just misunderstood
Nobody's perfect, I gotta work it, Work it
Again and again 'til I get it right Nobody's perfect, you live and you learn it And if I mess me up sometimes Nobody's perfect, I gotta work it I know in time I'll find the way Nobody's perfect
Sometimes I fix things up And they fall apart again Nobody's perfect, I might mix things up But I always get it right in the end
[Spoken] You know I do
[spoken] Next time you feel like it's just one of those days When you just can't seem to win If things don't turn out the way you planned, Figure something else out! Don't stay down, try again
[Sung] Yeah! Everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days thats right Everybody knows what, what I'm talking bout Everybody gets that way woo Everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days Everybody knows what, what I'm talking bout Everybody gets that way
Nobody's perfect, I gotta work it Again and again 'til I get it right Nobody's perfect, you live and you learn it And if I mess it up sometimes Nobody's perfect, I gotta work it I know in time I'll find the way Nobody's perfect, you live and you learn it 'Cause everybody makes mistakes Nobody's perfect Nobody's... perfect No no Nobody's perfect
