My Melaka Trip @ 22-23 August 2009

Donald's & Lily's

Nyonya Restaurant that Sharon recommended.

It’s called “Donald & Lily Corner”.

This pic only shows the cendol stall but the shop is upstairs.

Donald & Lily

Donald & Lily Corner located @ the street beside Herren Street.

Nasi Ayam Ponteh

Name: Nasi Ayam Ponteh

Price: RM5.50

My opinion: Tasty. The Belacan was SUPERB!!

Recipe: White rice served with Vege (fried cabbage), Belacan and Ayam Ponteh.

Ayam Ponteh

Name: Ayam Ponteh

My opinion: This is just a close view of the food. It’s quite delicious.

Recipe: Chicken meat, Potato, Mushroon, Fermented bean sauce (taucu).

Nasi minyak with ayam rendang

Name: Nasi Minyak Ayam rendang a.k.a. Nasi Minyak

Price: RM6.50

My opinion: This is my favourite dish in Donald & Lily. Just that it’s not that piping hot.

Recipe: Nasi Minyak served with Ayam Rendang, vege (fried cabbage) and some appetizer (pineapple & onion).

Nyonya Laksa

Name: Nyonya Laksa (for the penang folks is curry mee).

Price: I forgot. But it’s below RM5.00

My opinion: It’s not that tasty as I expected. When I order, I even thought it is something like penang assam laksa. But it’s really good compared to KL’s curry mee. The lemak is too much maybe this is the style of it. But overall, Ok. It’s strongly recommend by my friends who ate it.

Recipe: Mee/Bihun or both, served with curry lemak and fishball, taufu pok, sambal etc.

Taufu Rojak

Name: Taufu Rojak

Price: RM7.00 if I’m not mistaken.

My opinion: Ok. The sauce is actually KL’s chee cheong fun’s sauce with some chilli sauce. But, I don’t really recommend it because it’s nothing special for me.

Recipe: Taufu, Fishcake, Fucok served with chee cheong fun sauce and chilli sauce.

Nyonya Cendol

Name: Nyonya Cendol

Price: RM2.50

My Opinion: It’s special. This is the first time I saw sago in the cendol. The cendol is quite nice due to the unique taste of Gula Melaka. Quite worth it!

Recipe: Ice, green bean noodles (cendol), santan, big red beans, gula melaka, sago.

Hoe Kee Chicken Rice Ball

Name: Chicken Rice Ball (from 和记鸡饭 @ Jonker Street).

Price: I don’t know.

My opinion: 5 rice balls = 1 plate of rice. The rice ball is very nice and you can eat on it’s own!!

Recipe: Rice cooked with chicken oil i guess.

Half-chicken $14

Name: 1/2 白斩鸡 (chicken)

Price: RM14.00

My opinion: SUPERB. They cut it very small. The meat is very tender so it’s suitable for old folks and children.

Recipe: Chicken served with soy sauce and cucumber.

Assam Curry Fish

Name: Assam Fish

Price: RM17.00 for the 鱼肉 and RM25.00 for 鱼尾.

My Opinion: I love the Assam curry. The fish is ok too. But this time, it’s a bit too sour. But, GOOD!!

Recipe: Fish cooked with Assam curry and served with ladies fingers.

1st pic: Chapella.

2nd pic: Chapella’s Stepmother.

3rd pic: Fairy/Angles.

4th pic: Black t-shirt guy is the Fairy Godfather. The Malay Guy on the left is Prince Mak Cincang.

5th pic: The 3 people from the left is Chapella’s Stepsisters – Ciku, Moku, Poku.

6th pic: The Malay guys are the 60’s dancers in the drama.

THE STORY BEGINS!!!!

Once upon a time at a far away land which is not that far from 11.20.20.

There lives a gorgeous, kind-hearted, sweet, sexy, beautiful (and more descriptive which I forgot) young maiden.

Scene 1:

Chapella is sweeping the floor.

Entry of the stepmother and the 3 stepsisters.

Stepsister threw the rubbish to the floor.

“Ma, see, she didn’t sweep properly,” said chiku,moku/poku. (I forgot which character said it)

Stepmother use her shoes to sweep the rubbish to the front of Chapella.

“What is this?” asked the stepmother.

“Rubbish,” said Chapella.

“You know is rubbish. Why are you not sweeping it?”

Chapella swept it.

Later, another stepsister threw rubbish in front of Chapella and complained to her mom.

“Ma, she’s not sweeping it properly,”

“Ma, she also didn’t iron my clothiers,”

“Ma, show her some moves,”

The stepmother rolled up her baju Kebaya sleeves after putting down her bag on the floor.

“How many times should I tell you? Now you are making me very angry! I shall give you punishment,”

And so goes the stepmother punch Chapella once.

Twice.

“Hooray, Ma you’re great!!”

“You’ve got a mail,” said the Narrator.

“Oh, I got a mail. Let me check,” Stepmother checking her email at laptop.

“Oh!! Ciku, moku, poku, faster come!!”

“See, I got an invitation from prince to go to the ball!”

She then walked away from her laptop to let her daughters to read.

“Ma, you’re so lame. This is only for ladies below 20s like us. You’re old already, Ma”

“Oh, I see.” Said stepmother.

“What’s her name? Oh ya, Chapella! Chapella!” shouted the stepmother.

“Go and call taxi aunty and ask her to fetch us now because we are going out,”

“Why are you all going out?” asked Chapella.

“It’s none of your business!” said the stepmother. (You should see the way Lavina act!)

“Guess what? We are going to the ball!! And you’re not going,” said the 3 stepsisters together.

Scene 2:

Chapella is crying beside a tree.

The tree is an actor too. He was holding some branches to show that he’s the tree.

3 fairies/angles came in and were circling around Chapella.

They were wandering why is she crying.

“Why is she crying?”

“I don’t know,”

“Let’s call the Fairy Godfather,”

Phone rings.

“Hello! Why are you calling?” asked the Fairy Godfather.

“There is 1 girl crying here and we don’t know why. Can you come over?”

“ok, where are you?”

The fairies looked around and saw the tree.

“We are standing at a place near the tree,”

“Ok, let me use my GPS system to check,” (so modern!)

And so, the Fairy Godfather fly (I guess) to the place.

Scene 3:

“Where is she?” asked the Fairy Godfather.

“There she is,” answered the 3 Fairies.

The Fairy Godfather looks at Chapella.

Chapella saw him and was scared about it.

Music plays.

Chapella hide behind the tree and was avoiding the curious Fairy Godfather.

Music stops.

“Who are you?” asked Chapella.

“I’m your Fairy Godfather,”

“Since when I have a Fairy Godfather?”

“Since kindergarden,”

“Why are you crying?”

“My mum didn’t allow me to go to the ball,” said the sobbing Chapella.

“What ball? Football?” asked the Fairy Godfather.

“No, the dance ball,”

“Oh, the dance ball,”

“Actually she’s not my real mother,”

“Not you real mother?”

“She’s my mak tiri. You know? Stepmother. Step Step Mother,” said Chapella while stepping the floor.

“Oh, so, what do you want? I can grant your wish,”

“Really, I want nice dress and shoes and some tiara to go to the ball. I also need a carriage,”

“What? Orang bagi betis mau paha lagi! Orang bagi paha mau betis lagi!”

“Oklah. I grant your wish,” said the Fairy Godfather.

“Let me call my 3 assistance to help,”

“Hello, come now and help Chapella,”

The 3 fairies fly to there.

“Why are you all so late?” asked the Fairy Godfather.

“We went shopping mah,”

“ Ok. Now I want you all to decorate Chapella and make her the most beautiful woman in the world,”

The 3 fairies bring Chapella to the corner of the stage to take out his outer layer clothes because he wore it inside.

Lip Gloss was put and my shoes were wore and hairclip was put nicely at Chapella.

“Testing 1,2,3. Testing 1,2,3” said the Fairy Godfather by pointing the wand to himself.

“Fairy Godfather, this is not microphonelah.” Said one of the fairies.

“I know. I was just testing you,”

“Come my wand, let’s make Chapella the most beautiful woman in the world!”

He said the charms few times to allow time for the actor to change clothes.

Chapella is fully transformed into a beautiful woman.

The Fairy Godfather brings him to the ball.

Scene 4:

The boys and girls are dancing in lines.

The 3 stepsisters were dancing too in the middle.

The song and the dance are both 60’s. Then, all the dancers freeze.

“Mengumumkan ketibaan Duli Yang Maha Mulia Prince Mak Cincang from the land of Cincau!”

Final countdown music was played.

Prince Mak Cincang entered and fall.

Then, stand up quickly.

The song is played and the dancers continue to dance while the 3 stepsisters approach the prince.

As the prince wanted to dance with one of them, Chapella appeared with the help of Fairy Godfather and stunned the prince with her beauty.

“May I have a dance with you?” said the prince.

“Yes!” said Chapella happily.

BUT, the stepmother arrived at the ball too.

“Ciku, Moku, Poku. Where are you?”

The prince saw her and was stunned by her beauty. (the 20+ prince in love with a mother of three)

“You’re so sexy!” said the amazed prince.

“That was so nice of you,” said Chapella because the prince is still holding her hand.

“Not you,” said the prince, letting go Chapella’s hand.

“May I have a dance with you?” asked the prince.

“Of course!” said the stepmother.

“What? You love my stepmother?”

“Yes!”

“Ma, how can you do this to us?” said the 3 sisters.

So, the stepmother danced with the prince.

Music stops.

Chapella was holding Fairy Godfather’s hands.

The prince and stepmother were shocked and falled down.

“Why you all got couple? We don’t have”

“I think I found someone cute,” said one of the sisters.

They approach to the guy.

“Can you be our boyfriend?”

“Only 3 of you? Ok Ok lah!”

And so they live happily ever after.

THE END.

“The moral of the story is you should love, you will loose it by holding it back. So, enjoylah when you’re young.”

To the fellow Group 5 members:

WELL DONE!!!!!!!

Orientation Week @ 11.20.20

Day 5 (10/07/2009):

Woke up late this morning. Have to meet with the group @ 9am for rehearsal but instead, I woke up at 9am. Ash called me when I’m having my bath.
At the end, I managed to reach at the LH 3 at 9.20am. They already practice till halfway.
Later, all of the members are required to be at the Hall for rehearsal.
But I leave at 10am for Physics class.

At 11am, when I reached the Hall, our group just started for rehearsal.
Then, I watched the other group’s performances. I quite fancy the Musical theatre of Group 4 (G.T.I) and was looking forward for the Bollywood Dance and Modern Dance.

At 11.35am, went for lunch and Harwinder reminded me that we should buy the glitter to put on the Fairy Godfather’s wings to make it look more shiny.
Then, we met the group at LH 4. I was busy putting the glitter on the wing and was making a mess of it.
Luckily, J and Keer helped me out. THANKS!!
Then, I went to the hall again to watch the rehearsal. What a pity I miss the Bollywood dance.
Most of the dancers went back but the music is on.
So, we the faci are having some dance off to learn that bollywood dance.
I love the dance and the song and the moves. But, I danced it quite bad, got sesat somewhere.
We also danced the “pocok-pocok” because the faci are required to dance it during the closing ceremony of the orientation.
I asked Cheng to dance but he doesn’t know. So, Dhana taught him.
I challenged (so bad) Chee Kit to dance “Pocok-pocok” but he don’t want and asked me whether they have the “Chicken Dance” song because he wanted to dance that song.
I said:” I don’t have the song. What is Chicken dance? Can you teach me?”
And he taught me. It’s simple and cute.
Later, I talked to some juniors.

Then, went back to apartment for a bath before meeting the girls at Cr14 for make-up.
But, I don’t know how to make-up and don’t have the accessories too.
Luckily, Harwinder make-up for them. Thanks, Harwinder!!
Met with the other group members at the hall @ 3pm for closing ceremony.
We are the second group to present after the Bollywood Dance.

Closing Ceremony:
It beguns with the powerful performance by the Bollywood dancers from Loga’s group.
Then, speech and speech and introduction of lecturers.
Finally, our group!!!
Due to last minute can’t find shoes for the “Chapella”, I decided to lend him my very own shoes.
When he was acting, I’m bare footing….
The sketch is good but some funny part the audience can’t hear.
Then, we got the Fashion show. (this performance I mentioned are not in order because I forget)

Fashion show:
Got the Peterpan from Neverland and Tinkerbell too.
Zombie.
Orang Asli.
Galactica people.
And someone like superman and superwoman.
Boria:
I was amazed by the sweet voice of the girl.

Musical Theatre:
Quite nice. I like the story and the choreography for the “Disturbia” song was so cute and was danced by the boys.
I like the “Jaiho” too.

Dikir Barat:
This Dikir Barat is different from what I usually watch.
They even talked about the ghosts and the hall suddenly blacked out and the 4 ghosts entered.
There’s a card sticking behind each ghost to indicate what type is it.
Choral Speaking:
It’s quite like our group last year. They shouldn’t move their hands but they move. But I like the lyrics.

Sketch (Sad):
It’s quite touching that I cried without realising it and was hiding my face later.

Traditional Dance:
I like the “Che Ling” performed by SN’s junior.
And this is not the normal dance where you just dance.
There is a story about it too that makes it interesting.
It comprise of Indian dance, Chinese Fan dance and the Malays dance.

Modern Dance:
It was divided into three parts. They used the Michael Jackson song like “Bit it”.
It’s ok. The best part is the moon walking.
The Best Performance goes to the Dikir Barat, followed by Traditional Dance, Bollywood Dance, Choral Speaking and our sketch.
